1310 attorneys and law firms across Florida are listed in this directory, with the strongest coverage in Orlando, Gainesville, Fort Myers, Tallahassee and Pensacola. The most common practice areas are personal injury, criminal defence, family law and business law.
How the courts are organised
Florida's trial courts are split into twenty judicial circuits, each covering one or more counties. Circuit courts handle felonies, family law, probate and larger civil claims; county courts take misdemeanours and smaller civil matters. Appeals go to one of the District Courts of Appeal. Federal cases fall to the Northern, Middle or Southern District of Florida.
Points that shape Florida cases
— All attorneys belong to The Florida Bar, whose public directory shows licence status and discipline history.
— Florida is a no-fault auto state: personal injury protection coverage pays first, treatment has to be sought promptly after a crash, and a claim against the other driver for pain and suffering requires meeting the injury threshold.
— Marital property is divided equitably, starting from an equal split unless there is a reason to depart from it.
— The state has amended several civil litigation deadlines in recent years — confirm the current limitation period with an attorney rather than relying on older guidance.
