Attorney Richard W. Young was raised on Long Island. He attended Long Island University, C.W. Post College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors. Post graduation, Young was appointed an officer in the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, receiving the Jack P. Finnerty Award for Academic Excellence. Young left the sheriff’s department to join the New York City Police Department, a lifelong goal of his. Officer Young quickly became a highly decorated New York City police officer, graduating from the police academy in the top 1% of his class. Officer Young served in prestigious commands that included the Tactical Patrol Force and the Street Crime Unit, and he was an investigator with the Organized Control Bureau Narcotics Division. He made many notable and highly publicized arrests. He became a police sergeant in 1985, and he was assigned as the Supervisor of the Midtown South Precinct Anti-Crime Unit in 1986. Officer Young suffered a serious injury in the line of duty in 1988, forcing him to retire early due to the severity of the injuries sustained. Young then attended St. John’s School and was subsequently admitted to practice law before the Courts of New York State. Attorney Young founded his law firm and has since then successfully handled thousands of legal matters for his clients.
