I am a personal injury lawyer. The firm I joined in 1980, Gair, Gair, Conason, Rubinowitz, Bloom, Hershenhorn, Steigman & Mackauf was founded by my father Harry A. Gair in 1919. Clients I have represented have found themselves needing my help with cases involving anything from defective products to medical malpractice to automobile accidents. In the city of New York, I am considered to be one of the most respected personal injury attorneys in town. My reputation is not limited to the city of New York however. I have a national reputation built in the area of civil rights where the rights of citizens have been abused through police misconduct. I was chosen by the family of Amadou Diallo to pursue a wrongful death suit after their son Amadou was shot at 41 times with 19 rounds striking Mr. Diallo by members of the NYC Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit. The case which ended when the city of New York agreed on a $3 million payment to the family, the largest amount that the city of New York has ever paid in a wrongful death action for the death of a single man with no reported income and with no dependents. My expertise is often sought by others in the profession, and I have lectured and appeared as an expert legal commentator on television and radio numerous times. My legal opinions have also been published in newspapers such as New York Times, the Daily News and the New York Post along with articles I have written in the areas of medical malpractice, New York Construction law and products liability. I am a member of the American Association for Justice, The American Board of Trial Advocates, The New York State Trial Lawyers Association; The Association of the Bar of The City of New York (member, Products Liability Committee, 1994-1996); have taught at Fordham University School of Law; am a life-time member of Scribes-American Society of Writers on Legal Subjects and a member of the Roscoe Pound Foundation, and was a recipient of The New York State Trial Lawyer
